I had been to the Seaplane Base once before, briefly, back in 2009. This time I decided to stay there all afternnon. One reason was to get out of the heat. I had always heard that the Seaplane Base was shady with cool breezes. And so it was.
Lots of people on hand, taking advantage of the shade. There is a shuttle service between Wittman Field and here; it's about a 15 minute ride in the school bus.

Idyllic scene. | ||||||
The big lagoon where the seaplanes are safely anchored.
|
||||||
The seaplanes takeoff and land out in big Lake Winnebago, then taxi into the lagoon through that narrow gap.
A close-up of all the seaplanes anchored in the lagoon.
Lots of people just hanging out.
Nice.
|
||||||
A floatplane on landing roll-out.
A little seaplane tower/operations center at the mouth of the lagoon inlet.

Looking inland. | ||||||
A pontoon boat giving tours of the seaplane base.
A floatplane taxiis through the gap.
I had brought my big folding chair, the one with the leg rest. I set it up, sat down and in five minutes I was alseep.
A little Monet-esqe with the lily pads.
Yeah, after spending a pleasant afternoon at the seaplane base, I was thinking I might want to go down to Florida and visit Mr. Jack Brown one of these days. You can get your seaplane rating there in two or three days.
